Jane Robbins - Portrait Sculptor
Before becoming a portrait sculptor I grew up in Merseyside in a large show business family so it was natural to go into the theatre as a scenic artist and prop maker. After training at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, I worked in the professional theatre and television for many years painting sets and sculpting everything from fake heads to polystyrene gargoyles. I later trained at Stafford Art College in traditional figurative sculpture and although I still work occasionally in TV prop and scenic departments (most recently making props for BBC's In The Night Garden), I mostly specialise in portrait sculpture from my studio in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
I have been commissioned to sculpt famous names including The late gardener Percy Thrower, Linda McCartney, the cartoon character Andy Capp, The Queen Mother and Steeplejack Fred Dibnah and my smaller edition bronzes and Crystalclear resin work is sold through galleries in Shropshire and London.
I have taught sculpture to special needs students within school settings and worked with the charity "Saving Faces", set up to support facially disfigured patients in hospital.
